Famous Modern Sculpture Jeff Koons 304 Stainless Steel

Jeff Koons plays with concepts of taste, pleasure, celebrity, and commerce. "I completely believe in advertising and media," he states. "My art and personal life are based on this." Koons uses alluring commercial materials, such as the high-chrome stainless steel of his Balloon Dog sculptures or the vinyl of his Inflatable series. While his paintings and sculptures widely reference techniques and styles from art history-often perceived as satirical or humorous-Koons insists his approach is earnest and optimistic.

"I've always loved Surrealism, Dada, and Pop Art, so I just focused on my interests and dove into them," he says. "When you do that, things become very metaphysical." His Banality series, which brought him fame in the 1980s, includes pseudo-baroque sculptures of Michael Jackson and his pet chimpanzee. His monumental works like Puppy (1992), a topiary dog, reference 17th-century French garden design.

Rabbit

Creation Date and Context: Crafted in 1986, Koons modeled this sculpture after inflatable rabbit toys, casting it in highly polished stainless steel.

Artistic Value and Impact: One of Koons' defining works, it is hailed as a 20th-century art classic. In 2019, it sold for $91.1 million at a Christie's New York auction, breaking the record for the highest price paid for a living artist's work and solidifying Koons' prominence in contemporary art.
