Processing Considerations
A. Cutting Processing
Tool selection: Use high-speed steel (HSS-Co) or cemented carbide tools (e.g., WC-Co alloys with TiC additives) to handle the steel's high strength and wear resistance.
Cutting parameters:
Cutting speed: 60-100 m/min for carbide tools; 30-50 m/min for HSS tools.
Feed rate: 0.1-0.25 mm/r; cutting depth: 2-4 mm (avoid excessive force to prevent tool chipping).
Cooling and lubrication: Use extreme pressure cutting oil or emulsion (containing sulfur and chlorine additives) to reduce friction and heat, preventing workpiece overheating and tool wear.
Stability control: Ensure rigid clamping (e.g., hydraulic chucks) and stable machine tools to avoid vibration, which can affect surface roughness (target Ra ≤ 1.6 μm).
B. Welding Processing
Welding methods: Prefer arc welding processes such as SMAW (manual arc welding), GTAW (TIG), or GMAW (MIG). GTAW is suitable for root passes to minimize pores and slag inclusion.
Pre-weld preparation:
Clean 坡口 surfaces (mechanical grinding) to remove oxides, oil, and rust (clean 20 mm on both sides of the 坡口).
Preheating: Required to prevent cold cracking. Preheat to 150-250°C (adjust based on plate thickness; thicker plates need higher temperatures).
Welding materials: Use low-hydrogen electrodes matching the base metal, e.g., E8515-G (for SMAW) or ER80S-G (for GMAW). Dry electrodes at 350°C for 1 hour and store in a 100-150°C holding oven.
Post-weld treatment:
Stress relief annealing: Heat to 550-650°C, hold for 2-4 hours, then cool slowly to reduce residual stress.
Avoid rapid cooling to prevent brittleness; perform tempering if necessary to restore toughness.
