Products Description
One of the core characteristics of 25CrMo4 steel plates in alloy structural applications is their high hardenability, which is specifically reflected in the following aspects. These characteristics enable them to adapt to complex working conditions and large - scale components:
I. Core Manifestations of Hardenability
Hardenability refers to the ability of steel to obtain martensite structure during quenching. The high hardenability of 25CrMo4 is mainly manifested as follows:
Uniform hardening of large sections: Even for steel plates with a relatively large thickness (such as more than 50mm), the core can still obtain a high proportion of martensite structure during overall quenching, rather than only surface hardening. This ensures the uniform performance of the entire component and avoids insufficient performance in the core due to excessive section size.
Wide process adaptability: It can achieve ideal hardening effect under different cooling rates (such as water cooling, oil cooling or even forced air cooling), which reduces the strict requirements on quenching media and simplifies the production process.

II. Causes of High Hardenability
Its hardenability advantage stems from the synergistic effect of alloying elements:
Chromium (Cr): As a strong carbide - forming element, it can significantly improve the stability of austenite, delay pearlite transformation, gain time for martensite formation, and expand the hardenability range.
Molybdenum (Mo): While refining grains, it further inhibits austenite decomposition and enhances the stability of undercooled austenite, especially having a significant effect in the medium - temperature range (pearlite transformation interval), and forms a "superposition effect" with chromium.
Carbon (C): An appropriate amount of carbon (0.22% - 0.29%) provides the basis for martensite transformation. It combines with alloying elements to form stable carbides, which not only ensures hardenability but also avoids brittleness caused by high carbon content.
