Description
Product Application
ASTM A105 is a carbon steel under the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard, mainly used for withstanding low pressure and temperature, and possessing good mechanical and processing properties. The following is a detailed introduction to ASTM A105:
Execution Standard: ASTM A105
Range of Chemical Composition:
Carbon (C): 0.12% - 0.20%
Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.35%
Manganese (Mn): 0.50% - 0.80%
Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.04%
Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.05%
Chemical Composition:
The chemical composition of ASTM A105 mainly includes carbon (C), silicon (Si), manganese (Mn), phosphorus (P), and sulfur (S). Among them, carbon is the main element of steel, which can increase the strength and hardness of steel; silicon can improve the strength and hardness of steel while reducing its plasticity and toughness; manganese can increase the strength and hardness of steel while improving its toughness; phosphorus and sulfur are harmful elements, which should be reduced as much as possible.
Mechanical Properties:
ASTM A105 has good mechanical properties. Its tensile strength is generally between 30,000 - 40,000 psi, yield strength is between 22,000 - 28,000 psi, elongation is between 22% - 32%, cross-sectional shrinkage is between 35% - 50%, hardness is between 75 - 95 HRB. The specific values will vary with different heat treatment and processing conditions.
Advantages:
1. It has high strength and hardness, good wear resistance and fatigue resistance.
2. It has good processing performance and can undergo shear, stamping, cutting, bending and other processes.
3. It has good welding performance and can adopt various welding methods such as carbon arc welding and gas shielded welding for welding.
4. It has good corrosion resistance and can maintain stability in damp environments.
5. It has a long service life, high fatigue resistance and corrosion resistance, and can be used for a long time under low pressure and temperature.
Disadvantages:
1. Compared with other advanced alloy steels, ASTM A105 has poorer high temperature resistance, prone to creep and relaxation.
2. In high temperature environments, the strength and hardness of ASTM A105 will decrease, and deformation and failure are likely to occur.
3. The cutting processing of ASTM A105 is poorer, more complex processing techniques need to be adopted.
4. Compared with other advanced alloy steels, ASTM A105 has higher hardness, difficult to carry out bending and cutting and other processing operations.
Applications:
ASTM A105 is mainly used for the production of equipment and components such as pipes, valves, pumps, flanges, etc., which can withstand low pressure and temperature. In addition, ASTM A105 can also be used to manufacture various sheet materials, profiles, structural parts, etc. Surface treatment such as zinc plating or chrome plating can be carried out during the manufacturing process to improve the corrosion resistance and aesthetics of the products.
