Chemical Composition: The chemical composition of SK4 steel includes carbon (C) ranging from 0.95-1.04%, silicon (Si) less than 0.35%, manganese (Mn) ranging from 0.40-1.00%, and the content of phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) not exceeding 0.030%.

 

Properties: The tensile strength of SK4 steel ranges from 540-730 MPa, and the yield strength is 240 MPa. The fracture elongation is 20%.

 

Uses: SK4 steel is primarily used for manufacturing cold stamping dies, cutting tools, milling cutters, bearings, and other components that require high hardness and wear resistance.

 

Condition: SK4 steel is usually supplied in an annealed state, which has relatively low hardness and good machinability.

 

Advantages: SK4 steel has good hardenability, allowing it to achieve high hardness and excellent cutting performance. It also has good wear resistance and adjustability.

 

Disadvantages: SK4 steel has relatively poor toughness, making it prone to fractures and deformation. Suitable processing conditions should be employed while using SK4 steel.

 

Common Forms: Common forms of SK4 steel include round bars, flat bars, and sheets.

 

Comparison of National Standards: Compared to carbon tool steel grades in other countries, the chemical composition and properties of SK4 steel are slightly different. In China, a similar grade is T11 steel, following GB/T1298 standard.
