Properties of 34CrMo4 Steel

34CrMo4 / 1.7220 steel has high tensile strength and toughness, even at varying temperatures. 34CrMo4 has good hardenability. DIN 34CrMo4 also has excellent wear resistance and fatigue strength.

 

Forging of 34CrMo4 Material

Forging of 34CrMo4 steel should be done between 900-1200°C, followed by cooling in still air.

Heat Treatment

Annealing: Heat to 650-700°C, cool slowly.

Normalizing: Heat to 870-900°C, cool in air.

Quenching: 830-870°C, oil or water quench.

Tempering: 540-680°C.
