Products Description
Here is the production process of WH60 low alloy high strength steel, a Chinese-grade steel used in high-strength structures such as construction machinery, mining equipment, and bridges. The process integrates alloy design, rolling technology, and heat treatment to meet requirements for high strength, toughness, and weldability. Below are the main production steps and key technical points:
I. Smelting Process
1. Charge Preparation
Raw materials primarily include iron ore and scrap steel, supplemented with alloy materials (e.g., manganese, silicon, niobium, vanadium, titanium). The goal is to precisely control the chemical composition, especially the carbon content (typically ≤0.2%) and alloy element ratios, to balance strength and weldability.
Key Points: Reduce impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus (S≤0.025%, P≤0.025%) to minimize hot and cold brittleness and improve toughness.
2. Smelting Equipment
Typically uses converter smelting or arc furnace smelting, combined with secondary refining (e.g., LF furnace, VD furnace):
LF Furnace (Ladle Furnace): Desulfurization, deoxidation, and fine-tuning of alloy composition; controls the morphology and distribution of inclusions.
VD Furnace (Vacuum Degassing): Reduces hydrogen content in steel (≤2ppm) to avoid hydrogen-induced cracking while further purifying the molten steel.
3. Chemical Composition Control
Roles of typical alloy elements:
Mn (Manganese): Solid solution strengthening to improve strength, usually 1.0%–1.6% content.
Si (Silicon): Auxiliary strengthening, 0.2%–0.55% content, but excessive amounts reduce toughness.
Nb (Niobium), V (Vanadium), Ti (Titanium): Microalloying elements that enhance strength and toughness through precipitation strengthening and grain refinement (forming carbonitrides), typically ≤0.15% content.
C (Carbon): Strictly controlled to low levels (≤0.18%) to reduce carbon equivalent (CEV) and improve weldability.
