S335 Jr Steel: It is also a carbon - based steel used in ship - building. The "S335 Jr" designation follows European standards. It has a minimum yield strength of 335 MPa and is suitable for various structural components in ships and marine applications.

Chemical Composition

Ah36 and Dh36 Steels:

They contain carbon, usually in a range that provides a good balance between strength and ductility. The carbon content is around 0.14% - 0.18%. Manganese is another important element, with a content of approximately 0.90% - 1.60%. Manganese helps to improve the strength and hardenability of the steel. There are also small amounts of alloying elements like niobium, vanadium, or titanium in some cases, which can refine the grain structure and further enhance the mechanical properties through mechanisms such as precipitation strengthening.

The presence of elements like copper and chromium in trace amounts can also contribute to the corrosion resistance of these steels. Copper can form a protective film on the surface, and chromium can enhance the passivation ability of the steel in a marine environment.

S335 Jr Steel:

The carbon content of S335 Jr steel is typically around 0.20% - 0.24%. It also contains manganese in the range of 1.40% - 1.70%. Silicon is present, mainly for deoxidation during the steel - making process, with a content of around 0.15% - 0.40%.

Mechanical Properties

Ah36 and Dh36 Steels:

The minimum yield strength of these steels is 355 MPa. Their tensile strength is usually in the range of 490 - 620 MPa. The elongation at break is an important property, which is typically around 21% - 25% for a plate thickness of 5 - 10mm. These mechanical properties ensure that the steels can withstand the various loads and stresses that ships experience during operation, such as hydrostatic pressure, wave impacts, and dynamic loads from cargo and machinery.

The steels also have good impact toughness, especially at low temperatures. The "D" in Dh36 indicates that it has better impact properties at low temperatures than Ah36. This is crucial for ships operating in cold sea areas.

S335 Jr Steel:

With a minimum yield strength of 335 MPa and a tensile strength suitable for structural applications, it provides the necessary strength for many parts of a ship.
