Carbon content: The carbon content is an important factor determining the strength of the steel. Generally, high-strength carbon steel has a relatively high carbon content, but it needs to be controlled within a certain range to ensure the balance between strength and other properties. For example, carbon content is usually above a certain threshold (such as higher than 0.6% in some cases) to provide high strength, but excessive carbon content may lead to reduced ductility and weldability.
Alloying elements: Elements such as manganese (Mn), silicon (Si), chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and molybdenum (Mo) may be added in appropriate amounts. Manganese can improve the strength and hardenability of the steel; silicon can enhance the elastic limit and strength; chromium and molybdenum can improve the corrosion resistance and high-temperature performance. The contents of these alloying elements need to be controlled precisely to achieve the desired performance.
Impurity control: The contents of impurity elements such as sulfur (S) and phosphorus (P) must be strictly limited. High levels of sulfur can cause hot brittleness, while high phosphorus can lead to cold brittleness, both of which will seriously affect the quality and performance of the steel. Generally, the sulfur content is required to be less than 0.03% - 0.05%, and the phosphorus content is less than 0.03% - 0.045%1.
