There are mainly the following differences between general strength structural steel and high-strength structural steel:

Tensile strength:
The tensile strength of general strength structural steel is between 400 - 520N/mm². For example, the tensile strength of CCSB is between 400MPa - 520MPa.
The tensile strength of high-strength structural steel is higher. The tensile strength of A36 is between 490 - 620N/mm², which is significantly higher than that of general strength structural steel.

Impact toughness:
The impact work of general strength structural steel at different temperatures is relatively low. Its impact toughness mainly meets the use requirements of secondary structural parts of ships in a general environment.
High-strength structural steel is divided into multiple grades according to different impact toughness, such as A36, D36, E36, F36, etc. It can still maintain good impact toughness at lower temperatures and is suitable for main structural parts of ships and important structural parts in offshore engineering, and can withstand harsher environmental conditions and external impacts.

 

 

 

Uses
General strength structural steel:
Mainly used for manufacturing secondary structural parts of ships, such as partitions and decorative panels inside cabins. These parts have relatively low strength requirements but need to have good welding performance and processing performance to meet the installation and decoration requirements of the ship's internal structure.
It can also be used in some small ship structures or non-critical parts with low strength requirements.
High-strength structural steel:
Mainly used for manufacturing the main structural parts of ships, such as the hull shell, deck, and bulkhead. These parts need to withstand various external forces during ship navigation, including wave impacts, water pressure, and cargo weight. Therefore, the strength requirements for steel are very high.
At the same time, high-strength structural steel is also widely used in important structural parts of offshore engineering, such as offshore oil drilling platforms and support structures of offshore platforms, which can withstand complex loads and harsh conditions in the marine environment.
