CCSB Ship Building Steel Sheet

There are mainly the following differences between general strength structural steel and high-strength structural steel:

Carbon content:
The carbon content of general strength structural steel is relatively low and is usually within a certain range to ensure its welding performance and toughness. For example, the carbon content of CCSB (grade B of general strength hull structural steel) is ≤0.21%.
The carbon content of high-strength structural steel may be slightly higher, but it will also be controlled within a reasonable range to avoid affecting welding performance and toughness. For example, the carbon content of high-strength structural steel A36 is ≤0.18%, slightly lower than that of general strength structural steel, but the difference is not particularly large.

Alloy elements:
High-strength structural steel usually contains more alloy elements such as manganese (Mn), niobium (Nb), vanadium (V), and titanium (Ti). These alloy elements can improve the strength and toughness of steel. For example, the manganese content in high-strength structural steel A36 is 0.9 - 1.6%, while the manganese content in general strength structural steel is relatively low. For example, the manganese content in CCSB is between 0.80% - 1.20%.

 

 

 

Manufacturing process
Heat treatment:
General strength structural steel is usually delivered in normalized or hot-rolled state and does not require complex heat treatment processes. This treatment method can ensure that the performance of the steel meets general usage requirements and reduces production costs at the same time.
High-strength structural steel may need to go through heat treatment processes such as quenching and tempering to improve its strength and toughness. These heat treatment processes can make the steel's structure more uniform and thereby improve its mechanical properties.
Welding process:
General strength structural steel has better welding performance and a relatively simple welding process. During the welding process, it is necessary to pay attention to controlling welding parameters to avoid welding defects.
The welding difficulty of high-strength structural steel is relatively large and requires special welding processes and welding materials. For example, when welding high-strength structural steel such as A36, processes such as preheating, controlling welding heat input, and using multi-layer and multi-pass welding may be required to ensure the quality and performance of the welded joint.
