I. Definition and Basic Introduction

 

AH36 is a kind of high-strength marine structural steel. The letter "A" represents the quality grade of the steel, "H" indicates high strength, and "36" means that the yield strength of this steel is 355 MPa (the actual value is above 355 MPa). This type of steel is mainly used in shipbuilding, offshore engineering and other fields.

 

II. Chemical Composition

 

Carbon (C): The carbon content is generally between 0.12% and 0.18%. An appropriate amount of carbon can increase the strength of the steel. However, if the carbon content is too high, it will reduce the toughness and weldability of the steel.

Silicon (Si): The content is approximately between 0.10% and 0.50%. Silicon mainly plays a role in deoxidization during the steelmaking process and can also increase the strength of the steel.

Manganese (Mn): It is usually between 0.70% and 1.60%. Manganese can significantly improve the strength and toughness of the steel and can also reduce the harmful effects of sulfur on the steel.

Phosphorus (P) and Sulfur (S): These two elements are harmful impurities in the steel. In AH36 steel, the phosphorus content generally does not exceed 0.025%, and the sulfur content does not exceed 0.025%. The low content of phosphorus and sulfur can reduce the hot brittleness and cold brittleness of the steel and improve the quality of the steel.

IV. Processing and Welding Properties
