I. Flatness

 

Importance

The flatness of shipbuilding steel plates directly affects the structural stability and appearance quality of ships. Uneven steel plates will increase the welding difficulty during assembly and may lead to welding defects, affecting the strength and tightness of ships.

For cruise ships, passenger ships and other ships that pay attention to appearance, flatness is even more crucial as it determines the overall aesthetics of the ship.

Specific requirements

The surface of shipbuilding steel plates should be flat and there should be no obvious concave-convex, wavy, twisted and other deformations. Generally speaking, the flatness error should be controlled within a certain range, and the specific value depends on different ship types and usage requirements.

For example, for the hull structure steel plates of large cargo ships, the flatness error is usually required to be no more than a few millimeters per meter in length; while for the decorative steel plates of high-end cruise ships, the flatness requirements are even more stringent.

II. No defects

 

Surface cracks

Inclusions and delamination

There must be no inclusions and delamination inside the steel plate.
