The following is the general process of classification society certification:

 

I. Pre - application preparation stage

 

Understanding the requirements of the classification society

 

Thoroughly study the relevant specifications, rules, and certification requirements of the target classification society (such as CCS, ABS, LR, etc.). Different classification societies may have differences in the certification standards for different types of ships and marine products (including shipbuilding steel plates, etc.) in details, such as specific indicators in chemical composition, mechanical properties, manufacturing processes, etc.

 

Product preparation

 

For marine products (taking shipbuilding steel plates as an example), ensure that the production process complies with the relevant quality standards. From the selection of raw materials, the control of component composition during the steelmaking process, the setting of parameters in the rolling process to the quality inspection of the finished product, all should be strictly controlled according to the requirements of the classification society.

Organize and prepare the technical documents related to the product, such as design drawings, material lists, production process documents, quality control plans, etc. These documents will be submitted to the classification society for review during the certification process.

II. Review and inspection stage

 

Document review

 

The professionals of the classification society conduct a detailed review of the submitted technical documents. Check whether the documents are complete and compliant, and whether they meet the specification requirements of the classification society. For example, check whether the chemical composition analysis report of the shipbuilding steel plate is consistent with the component range specified by the classification society, and whether the production process documents can ensure the stability of product quality.

 

On - site inspection

 

The inspectors of the classification society will conduct on - site inspections at the production site. For the production of shipbuilding steel plates, they will check the operation of the steelmaking equipment, the control of process parameters in the rolling production line, the calibration of quality testing equipment, etc.

Extract product samples for testing. The test contents may include mechanical property tests (such as tensile test, impact test, etc.), chemical composition analysis, metallographic structure inspection, etc., to ensure that the actual quality of the product meets the requirements of the classification society.
