Precautions during the Preparation Stage

 

Regarding the Mold

 

Type and Size Adaptation: Carefully select the type (for example, slab molds for producing slab - shaped casting blanks and billet molds for producing square - shaped casting blanks) and size of the mold according to the specifications of the final steel plate product. If the mold size is inappropriate, for example, if it is too small, the molten steel during the solidification process will be overly constrained, which may cause defects such as surface cracks; if it is too large, the cooling effect and solidification speed will be affected, and the quality of the casting blank will decline.

 

Control of Cooling Water Volume: The cooling water volume of the mold is precisely adjusted according to the casting speed and the specifications of the steel plate. Generally, the cooling water flow rate is [X] cubic meters per hour, but this is only a reference range. If the cooling water volume is too large, the shell may generate thermal stress due to excessive cooling, leading to cracks; if the cooling water volume is too small, the shell will solidify too slowly, and breakout accidents are likely to occur. In actual operation, fine - tuning is required based on experience and real - time monitoring data.

 

Regarding the Mold Flux

 

Adaptability Selection: It is necessary to select the mold flux that matches the characteristics of the steel grade and the continuous casting process parameters. Its melting point, viscosity, and other parameters should be appropriate. For example, if the melting point of the mold flux is too high, it cannot be melted in time on the surface of the molten steel to form a slag film, and thus it cannot play the roles of lubrication and heat insulation; if the melting point is too low, the slag layer may be too thick, affecting the surface quality of the casting blank.

Precautions in Terms of Personnel Operation and Equipment Maintenance

During the pouring process, accurately control the flow rate of the molten steel and the casting speed; during operations such as adding mold flux, strictly follow the operating procedures to ensure the uniformity and timeliness of the addition.

 

Equipment Maintenance and Inspection: Continuous casting equipment (such as molds, cooling systems, etc.) requires regular maintenance and inspection. The inner wall of the mold should be kept smooth. If there is wear or deformation, the surface quality of the casting blank will be affected. The pipes of the cooling system should be regularly cleaned to prevent blockage from affecting the cooling effect. At the same time, the key components of the equipment (such as liquid level sensors, straightening machines, etc.) should be regularly calibrated to ensure the normal operation of the equipment.
