Vibratory Stress Relief (VSR)
Principle: Vibratory stress relief uses vibration equipment to cause resonance in the welded LR/FH40 steel components. During the resonance process, the residual stress inside the components will be redistributed and relaxed to a certain extent. This method utilizes the principle of microscopic slip and dislocation movement of metals under alternating stress. When the dynamic stress generated by vibration is superimposed on the residual stress inside the component, it will exceed the yield limit of the material in local areas, thus reducing the stress peak and achieving the purpose of eliminating welding stress.
Operation Process: Place the welded steel component on the worktable of the vibratory stress - relief equipment. Select appropriate exciters and vibration frequencies according to the size, shape, and weight of the component. Generally, the vibration frequency is usually between dozens of hertz and several hundred hertz. Then, adjust the vibration parameters to make the component resonate and vibrate for a period of time, usually 20 - 60 minutes. The specific time depends on the complexity of the component and the initial stress state.

Shot Peening
Principle: Shot peening uses high - speed pellets (such as steel pellets, glass pellets, etc.) to impact the surface of the welded LR AH42 steel. The impact of the pellets will cause tiny plastic deformation on the metal surface, and this deformation will extend to a certain depth inside the material. During this process, the residual stress in the welding area will be relaxed and redistributed due to local plastic deformation, thus achieving the effect of reducing the stress concentration.
Operation Process: Place the welded steel component in the working area of the shot - peening equipment and select appropriate pellet materials and particle sizes. For example, for LR/FH40 steel, the commonly used steel pellet particle size is between 0.3 - 1.5 mm. Adjust the injection pressure and angle of the shot - peening equipment to make the pellets impact the steel surface at an appropriate speed and angle. The injection pressure is generally between 0.2 - 0.6 MPa, and the injection angle depends on the shape of the component and the part that needs to be treated. The time and intensity of shot peening can be adjusted according to the size of the welding stress and the requirements of the component. Usually, shot peening lasts for 5 - 15 minutes, and then the component is inspected and evaluated.
Advantages: Shot peening can not only effectively eliminate welding stress but also form a certain compressive stress layer on the steel surface, improving the anti - fatigue performance and surface hardness of the component. At the same time, this method is simple to operate, and the equipment cost is relatively low, and it is suitable for welded components of various shapes and sizes.
