Effect on Corrosion Resistance

 

Phosphorus segregation will have an adverse effect on the corrosion resistance of the heat - affected zone of NV E620 welding. In a corrosive environment, the chemical composition of the segregation area is different from that of the surrounding matrix, forming a local micro - battery. The phosphorus - segregation area acts as an anode and is more prone to oxidation reactions, thus accelerating the corrosion process.

 

For example, in a humid environment containing chloride ions, the metal atoms in the phosphorus - segregation area are more likely to lose electrons and be oxidized into metal ions that enter the solution, while reduction reactions occur in the surrounding cathode area. Effect on Fatigue Performance

 

Phosphorus segregation in the heat - affected zone of NV E620 welding will reduce the material's fatigue performance. Under alternating loads, the phosphorus - segregation area, due to its higher hardness and the presence of brittle phases, is prone to crack formation. These cracks will continuously expand under the repeated action of alternating stresses.

 

From the perspective of fatigue - crack propagation, the microscopic - structure defects in the phosphorus - segregation area provide a more favorable path for crack propagation.
