Effect of Grain Refinement
Principle: The controlled - rolling process can effectively refine the grains of reinforcing bars. According to the Hall - Petch formula, the yield strength of steel is inversely proportional to the square root of the grain size. During the controlled - rolling process, the austenite grains of the reinforcing bars can be refined by means such as reducing the final rolling temperature and increasing the amount of deformation. When the refined grains are deformed under force, the grain boundaries can effectively impede the movement of dislocations, causing the dislocations to pile up at the grain boundaries. As a result, the reinforcing bars can continue to deform after yielding, thus improving the ductility.
Example: The grains of reinforcing bars produced by ordinary rolling processes may be relatively large. In a tensile test, after the stress reaches the yield strength, due to the relatively easy movement of dislocations inside the grains, the phenomenon of necking may occur quickly, leading to the breakage of the reinforcing bars and poor ductility performance. However, for the reinforcing bars with refined grains through controlled rolling, under the same stress, the dislocations pile up at the grain boundaries, and a higher stress is required for the dislocations to cross the grain boundaries and continue to move. This enables the reinforcing bars to continuously deform after yielding, significantly increasing the elongation rate and enhancing the ductility.
Optimization of Microstructure
Principle: Controlled rolling can adjust the internal microstructure of the reinforcing bars, such as controlling the recrystallization process of austenite. Under appropriate rolling conditions, the grain size inside the reinforcing bars can be made more uniform, reducing the defects and stress concentrations in the structure. The uniform microstructure can make the stress distribution more even when the reinforcing bars are under force, avoiding excessive local stress that leads to premature breakage and thus improving the ductility of the reinforcing bars.

Control of Inclusion Morphology and Distribution
Principle: In the steel production process, some inclusions are inevitable. The controlled - rolling process can influence the morphology and distribution of inclusions to a certain extent. Through appropriate rolling parameters, the inclusions can be refined, spheroidized, and uniformly distributed in the matrix of the reinforcing bars. When the reinforcing bars are under force, inclusions with such morphology and distribution will not easily become stress - concentration points like sharp, coarse, and non - uniformly - distributed inclusions, thus reducing the risk of reinforcing - bar breakage and improving the ductility.
Example: Suppose there are some long - strip - shaped sulfide inclusions in the reinforcing bars. These inclusions are likely to cause stress concentration and cracks when the reinforcing bars are under force. Through controlled rolling, these sulfide inclusions are transformed into spherical shapes and uniformly distributed. During the stretching process of the reinforcing bars, the stress can be more evenly transferred around the inclusions, reducing the generation of cracks caused by inclusions, and the ductility of the reinforcing bars is thus improved.
