I. Exceptional Resistance to Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC)

645SMo demonstrates superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride (Cl⁻)-containing environments, outperforming traditional stainless steels (e.g., 316L, 904L). Key advantages include:

 

Adaptability to high-concentration Cl⁻ media: Stable service in media with Cl⁻ concentration ≥ 400 mg/L (tested per ASTM G36), suitable for seawater, brine, and chlorinated chemical solutions.

Mechanism analysis: High nickel (Ni ≈ 24%–26%) and nitrogen (N ≈ 0.45%–0.55%) content strengthens the austenitic matrix, inhibiting anodic dissolution and hydrogen embrittlement caused by Cl⁻. Meanwhile, high molybdenum (Mo ≈ 7%–8%) forms a passive film to block corrosive medium penetration.
