1.7038 Steel

 

1.7038 steel is a low alloy steel commonly specified under DIN EN 10083-1 and DIN EN 10132-4 standards. Its chemical composition includes:

- Carbon (C): 0.35-0.42%

- Silicon (Si): maximum 0.40%

- Manganese (Mn): 0.60-0.90%

- Phosphorus (P): maximum 0.025%

- Sulfur (S): maximum 0.035%

- Chromium (Cr): 0.90-1.20%

- Boron (B): 0.002-0.005%

 

The tensile strength of 1.7038 steel is 1000-1250 MPa, yield strength is 850 MPa, and elongation at fracture is 10%.

 

This type of steel is commonly used for manufacturing high-load components such as framework, stabilizer, shafts, gears, and others.

 

1.7038 steel is available in hot-rolled, forged, heat-treated, and surface-treated conditions.

 

The advantages of 1.7038 steel include high hardness and strength, high wear resistance, and high heat resistance.

 

However, the drawbacks of this steel include increased brittleness at low temperature, as well as difficulties in welding and processing.

 

The most common forms of 1.7038 steel include bars, plates, tubes, and forgings.
