Gr. 50 Significance:

Minimum Yield Strength: 50 ksi (~345 MPa), indicating the material's resistance to plastic deformation under stress.

Tensile Strength: 65–80 ksi (~448–552 MPa), reflecting the maximum stress the material can withstand before fracture.

Key Characteristics

High Strength and Lightweight Design:

Reduces material thickness and structural weight compared to ordinary carbon steel (e.g., A36) at equivalent strength, lowering costs.

Excellent Weldability and Workability:

Low carbon equivalent (CE ≤0.45%) minimizes cracking during welding, suitable for on-site fabrication of large structures.

Can be cut, bent, and drilled to meet complex component requirements.

Corrosion Resistance:

Alloying elements (e.g., Nb, V) form a dense oxide film, enhancing atmospheric corrosion resistance over plain steel, ideal for outdoor or humid environments.
