Notes on Substitution

For European projects, prioritize S235JR (EN standard) as the German old standard St37-2 is gradually being phased out.

Confirm impact performance, delivery condition (hot-rolled/normalized), and tolerance requirements (e.g., thickness accuracy).

Applications: Bolts, nuts, steel plate fabricated parts; widely used for non-critical load-bearing components.

V. Processing and Welding Considerations

Thermal Processing Performance

Can be directly hot-rolled, cold-rolled, or stamped; excellent cold deformation capability (e.g., bending, stretching).

Moderate machinability; recommended to use high-speed steel (HSS) cutting tools with cutting fluid for cooling.

Welding Procedures

Electrode Selection: For manual arc welding, E4303 (J422) electrodes are suitable, offering low cost and wide applicability.

No Preheating Required: Direct welding at room temperature is feasible for thickness ≤30mm, with low risk of cold cracking.

Key Notes: Post-weld heat treatment is unnecessary, but slag must be cleaned to prevent corrosion.

Surface Treatment

As-factory surface has hot-rolled mill scale (rough texture). For anti-corrosion purposes, perform shot blasting (Sa2.5 grade) followed by applying rust-proof paint or galvanization (e.g., hot-dip galvanizing).
