Tensile Test

 

Principle and Operation: Tensile test is a fundamental method for testing the mechanical properties of materials. The CCS E620 steel that has undergone vibration stress-relief treatment and the untreated one are made into standard tensile specimens, usually in a dumbbell shape. Tensile tests are carried out on a universal testing machine. An axial tensile force is applied at a constant tensile speed (for example, 5 mm/min) until the specimen fractures. The testing machine automatically records the force-displacement (or stress-strain) curve during the tensile process.

 

Ways to Evaluate the Strengthening Effect:

 

Increase in Yield Strength and Tensile Strength: Compare the yield strength and tensile strength of the specimens before and after treatment. If both the yield strength and the tensile strength increase after vibration stress-relief treatment, it indicates that the material has been strengthened. For example, the yield strength of the untreated CCS E620 steel is [original yield strength value] MPa, and the tensile strength is [original tensile strength value] MPa. After vibration stress-relief treatment, the yield strength increases to [treated yield strength value] MPa, and the tensile strength increases to [treated tensile strength value] MPa. This shows that the material's ability to resist plastic deformation and fracture is enhanced, and the strengthening effect is obvious.

 

Changes in Uniform Elongation and Elongation after Fracture: Observe the uniform elongation and elongation after fracture. The uniform elongation reflects the material's ability in the uniform deformation stage, and the elongation after fracture reflects the material's toughness. If the uniform elongation and elongation after fracture do not decrease significantly or even increase after vibration stress-relief treatment, while the strength also increases, it indicates that the material is not only strengthened but also its toughness may be improved.

 

Hardness Testing (Macro Hardness Testing)

 

Principle and Operation:

 

Rockwell Hardness Testing: In the Rockwell hardness test, a diamond cone or a hardened steel ball is used as an indenter, which is pressed into the material surface under a certain test force. For CCS E620 steel, first select an appropriate Rockwell hardness scale (for example, the HRC scale is used for high-hardness materials). Place the indenter in contact with the specimen surface, apply the initial test force, then apply the main test force, maintain it for a certain period of time, and then remove the main test force and read the hardness value.

 

Brinell Hardness Testing: A cemented carbide ball with a certain diameter is used as an indenter. A certain test force is applied to press the indenter into the material surface. After maintaining it for a certain period of time, the test force is removed, and the diameter of the indentation on the material surface is measured. The Brinell hardness value is calculated according to the formula. This method is applicable to softer materials or CCS E620 steel whose hardness is not particularly high after heat treatment.
