Horizontal Position

Influence on the Uniformity of Heat Input: In the horizontal welding position, the liquid metal will flow vertically under the action of gravity, which is likely to cause undercut on the upper side and accumulation on the lower side of the weld, affecting the uniformity of heat. Due to the different flow situations of the liquid metal on the upper and lower sides of the weld, the transfer and distribution of heat on the upper and lower sides will also be interfered with. For example, if the heat input is excessive during horizontal welding, too much liquid metal will accumulate on the lower side of the weld, resulting in excessive reinforcement, while the upper side may have undercut due to the loss of liquid metal.

 

 

 

Methods to Ensure the Uniformity of Heat Input:

Control Welding Angle and Direction: The welding gun or electrode should be inclined upward at a certain angle, and the angle with the surface of the welded parts should be between 70° - 80°. Moreover, the welding direction should be from bottom to top. In this way, the blowing force of the arc and the surface tension of the liquid metal can be used to make the liquid metal in the molten pool distribute as evenly as possible on the weld and reduce flowing.
